Awareness Ribbon Pins and Contest
My beadie friends, I am writing this post in honor of my mother, Mary Bingham, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2001; my sister-in-law, Barbara Fiedler, who battled breast cancer and beat it; and, last but not least, my grandfather, Elmer Bingham, who died of throat cancer. There are many different types of awareness pins I could make in my family (bipolar, ADD, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders to mention a few). They are not just limited to cancer. See the links at the bottom of this message for suggested colors for the awareness pins.
For those of you that are not beaders, if you would like to order pin(s) from me, I will be purchasing the pattern to make them too. Just let me know what color or wareness you would like the pin to symbolize and I will make them up and ship them to you. The charge will be $10.00 for the pin plus shipping. I will be donating the money to the Freer, TX commodities for the elderly and indigent. They seem to have a hard time getting the funding for the groceries needed.
Kerrie Slade will be donating her designer fees from the sale of the Awareness Ribbon pins through the end of September to charities in honor of her mother who is battling breast cancer. She has will be dividing this money between two international charities – The Wellness Community and the American Institute for Cancer Research ( a member of World Cancer Research Fund International). You can make them any color you want for whatever awareness you want the pin to symbolize. The only thing she asks is that you not make these pins to sell for personal gain and that if you sell the pins that the money goes to a charity of your choice. To read more about her fundraiser, go to her blog. To purchase this pattern, click on the picture below.
I also wanted to to let you know that there is a Power Of Beading contest going on at Beading Daily website. For this contest, you send in your story about how beading helped you get through some situation or your own "got to be beading" story. I have already entered mine. The prize is one of 2 beautiful pins created by Kerrie Slade, who co-sponsors the contest with Beading Daily. To see the rules, click on the picture and go down the article to find them.
Ok, now for the links to explain the awareness colors:
Trinity London Awareness Ribbon Meanings has a drop down menu of colors or type of awareness for you to choose from.
Crafts’nScraps Awareness Ribbon Colors: to search their list you need to hit Edit and then Find and list the type of awareness ribbon you want.
Wikipedia List of Awareness Ribbons is listed by ribbon color like the one above and you need to either scan through them or do the Edit/Find technique.

I hope that lots of people will take this opportunity to either purchase a pin from you, Marilyn, or purchase the pattern to make Kerrie’s pin themselves. We can’t do enough to help those that fight this terrible disease every day. Cheers to you!
Great links Marilyn! Thank you!
Marilyn it seems we have all been touched by some kind of sadness in our lives.
My mother is doing ok at the moment, but her mother was not so fortunate and died from breast cancer.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate what you are doing here and I wish you the very best with your fundraising efforts.
Love Kerrie x
