CPSIA

Where will it all end?  Is the government trying to get rid of free enterprise and the cottage industry?  That is what this nation was built on.  If this law goes into effect, a large portion of the cottage industry will have to close down and claim bankruptcy.

There are so many people depending on their little handcrafted businesses just to put food on the table or pay their rent or mortgage.  What are these people going to do when they no longer have the extra income they have now.  Will the welfare system be able to support them?

Most of these cottage craft industries started because the owner couldn’t get work for one reason or another.  Many are stay-at-home moms or disabled and cannot get work outside the home.  I know because my daughter and I are a couple of them.  My daughter is a college student and cannot work on the side because of her son who has multiple disabilities requiring her presence in the home.  I cannot find work outside the home because of my age and disabilities.  We are some of the lucky ones though.  My husband has a job that supports the family (3 adults and 2 teenagers) to a point.  Of course anything that we can bring in helps to give the family a better standard of living.

What are the families that have to clothe children going to do when they have to buy everything brand new and not be able to resell them to get money for more new clothes?  What will they have to give up in order to afford these new clothes they will be buying instead of being able to buy them at the local Goodwill or second hand store?  Food? Medicine?  Doctor visits?

Everyone is going to be affected by this law in one form or another.  I foresee a higher cost of living for families with children and no extra money to cover it.  Plus many businesses going bankrupt in the next month.  Most won’t be able to afford the testing from the start so will just close down.

The law was put into place because toys from overseas had lead in them.  Lead has been being phased out here in the US for a long time.  I think the law needs to be looked at from the cottage industry point of view.  We don’t want our children to be hurt anymore than the government does.  We are very careful about what we put out there for sale for our children.

Please don’t punish the whole cottage industry and families with small children in the US because other countries do not ban lead in their products.

excellent – thank you for sharing this information – together hopefully we can make an impact and get this law amended and focused back onto it’s original intent – keeping our children safe!

Thank you so much for helping to spread the word about this poorly written law. It affects us all. Here’s hoping it’s amended soon to minimize the damage being done.

  3. You tell ‘em! This law is definitly backfiring. All that will be left to buy will be the toxic toys from China.
