Google Base
Just heard of a new marketing tool called Google Base. What is Google Base? Google Base is a database of all your items on your webpage or shop, such as Etsy, which are made searchable through various Google search applications, including Google Product Search and Web Search. In reality, you don’t even have to have a website as Google Base will create and host a URL (web address) free of charge for you that will allow searchers to visit and view your contents.
I am sure your next question is how do I go about getting my Google Base created. It sounds too hard.
First go to Let’s Ets, fill in your etsy shop name and whether your items are new or used or both and then click on Fetch my items. This will give you a picture and listings of all your items in your shop up to 100 items. After the last item listed, you will need to look it over to make sure everything is there (step 1). Step 2: Click on Download Bulk File and tell it you want to save the file. it should ask you where you want to save this file. Remember where you saved it. I saved it in a file called Etsy. Do this for each of your shops. (Step 3) Click where it has Google Base highlighted. (There are 2 other items highlighted in Step 3 that are tutorials telling you all about GB.)
If you don’t have a Google account, you need to sign up for one. This is a free service.
Now in Google Base Bulk Uploads, go to Settings tab and fill in that information. It says Website URL is optional but don’t believe it. Put your shop URL in there. Then save changes.
Go back to My Items and click on data feeds. Click on New Data Feed. This will ask you where you put your bulk files that you just downloaded to your computer. All you need is Your Country, Item Type (I put Product) and your data feed filename (mine was GrandmaMarilyns.xml). Now click Register data feed.
This file should now be under your My items – Data feeds. Now, I clicked Manual:upload file. Then you just wait for hours for it to upload. As someone said, this could take overnight.
Once this file has been uploaded and you get Success (and the expiration date of your listings), you can do any other shops that you have. Once you see success, you can click Active items to see what their status is. I have quite a few with Published……searchable soon and some that say Published…..searchable.
My guess from here is that once we have added a few items that we do the same procedure again to get them included or just do it every month.
Now, is that clear as mud? Hope I was able to help someone…..anyone?
Get your Google Base done? I hope that you will now get more views of your items and lots of sales, too.
