Hello world!

Hi everyone.  I figured I would give this a try.  Everyone else seems to be blogging so I figured why not me.  Forgive me if I am a little nervous as I start out my own blog.  I am going to be making entries about my beadwork but will be adding tidbits about my daily life as I remember to add to this blog.

To start off with, let me introduce myself.  I am 57 (58 on April 24), a wife [spouse: Walter], a mother of 2 (Michael [38] and Angelique [34]) and a grandmother of 5 (Katherine [17], Mathew [14], Desiri [14], Tommy [13], and Anna [11]).

I have done a lot of crafting in my life.  I will give you the low down on my crafting here.  Hopefully, I don’t bore you.

I had done some beading back in the 80’s.  I made some earrings and sold a few pairs.  As a matter of fact, I probably still have a few lying around somewhere.  That was a passing phase and everything got put away.  I was also doing crochet during that time period and made quite a few items from yarn.  I even tried my hand at crocheting with material and made a beautiful blouse for my little sister.  I tried my hand at knitting.  I found I didn’t like it because I was always dropping a stitch.  It was a booger bear to get it back to the way it was supposed to be using a crochet hook or having to tear out until you got back down to where you dropped the stitch or the beginning…..whichever came first. LOL  I also did some plastic canvas.  I really loved doing the Kissies.  You would make these and put a Hersheys Kiss in its mouth and a hang tag that said “Give me a squeeze and I’ll give you a kiss”.  Another craft I really loved was doll making.  I made realistic soft sculpture dolls and went to craft shows with my mother-in-law.  Everything except for my crocheting and plastic canvas went to the wayside to include my Kissies.

In November 2004, we moved down to Freer, TX to live with Walter’s Mom, Faye.  I was still doing my crocheting and very little plastic canvas.  I started working on my dolls again and created a little boy, Jonathan, who ended up being given to my granddaughter for Christmas in 2006 because no one was buying him.  My MIL taught me  how to make some doll quilts or as we liked to call them baby throws.  These quilts would fit perfectly on a baby in a car seat or carrier.  I sold 1 of these and gave the other to our pastor for his baby girl.

I had been a semi-truck driver for 9 years off and on and had to get off the truck due to health reasons.  I could not find a job so could not bring any money into the household budget.  I wracked my brain trying to figure out what I could do.  In 2005, I started a small shop with my mother-in-law, Faye, selling collectibles and used books in a store here in Freer.  Most of the items belonged to her and I wanted something that was mine.  I tried selling my doll and my quilts but no one was buying  She had bought some bracelets and other costume jewelry from an Oriental Trading catalog.  I thought I could maybe make some type of beadwork and maybe sell that.  I started beading again out of desperation in September of that year.   I started out making Crystal Snowflakes (using wire, Walmart seed bead, and acrylic crystal) and pony bead Christmas ornaments (using acrylic crystals instead of the pony beads).  I sold some these to some local friends and a couple of beaders online.

At the beginning of 2006, I was introduced to the world of online beading
groups and joined a few.  I learned what real bead weaving was and became addicted.  I have not touched my other crafts since I became a beadaholic.

My husband and I are currently in the process of moving from a 2  bedroom, 1 bath home to a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home.  Why you ask since this house is just the right size for my husband, myself, and 4 dogs?  My daughter.. her 2 children, 2 aquadic turtles, heaven knows how many fish, and 2 chihuahuas are getting ready to move down here with us this summer.  We are so excited.  We just can’t wait.
