Website Grader

Here is another little marketing tool that I found called Website Grader.

This program will go through and rate your blog or website (or Etsy shop).  Not only this, but it will give you tips on how to improve your shop’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization).  And, all of this is free.

You will receive a detailed report telling you your website grade, Google Page Rank, Traffic Rank, Blog Rank, how many incoming links you have, how many del.icio.us bookmarks your site has, and how many pages are indexed on Google.  Then once this is done, you will receive tips about how to improve your ratings in your site.

I used it on my Etsy site, GrandmaMarilyns, and received a rating of 65/100.  In other words, I ranked better than 65% of other shops like mine.  It told me that I needed to work on my Meta Description (turned out to be my shop announcements).  It told me that my meta description was too long.  Now that is one that I am going to have to think about as I don’t know how to make it work right.  It also told me I have too many images on my home page which is really funny as that is how Etsy is set up….nothing I can do about that one.  LOL  There were quite a few other things that it told me that I cannot do anything about.

Now, my blog is a totally different story (56/100).  It did give me some information to think about my blog that is doable.  My website according to this program is a lost cause (only 13/100).

Remember even if you make a great rating that there could still be some bad SEO in your site.  This program is not a fix-it-all.  This tool can be dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing.  So I recommend that you find somewhere to learn more about SEO if you don’t know anything.  There is a really cool set of courses that you get in your mailbox to learn about SEO and marketing called GNC Web Creations.  You take these courses at your own pace.  They have additional courses in HTML and CSS.
